Bitter End Compare and Contrast

Bitter End by Jennifer Brown has many similarities and differences from a previous book I read called Remember Me by Romily Bernard. One similarity that these two books have is that both main characters in the book don't have a mother. Wick's mom died as well as Alex's mom. Both of these characters wanted to know what happened to their own mom. In the book Bitter End by Jennifer Brown it stated, "Pressing my fingers lightly against the necklace under my shirt, I scurried back behind the counter and resumed wiping trays, daydreaming a little about Colorado. Bethany and Zazk and I had been planning this trip since we were eight years old, back when Zack's mom still called us the Terrible Three. It started out as my idea—go to the place my mom was headed when she died and see if I could figure out what was there that was so important to her that she would leave her family the way she did." This explains how Alex's mom died. She wants to know why her mom would could off to Colorado to see if she could figure out why her mom left her this way. According to the book Remember Me by Romily Bernard it states, "He scared her enough to commit suicide?' Same shakes her head hard. 'Not suicide.' 'She jumped off a building, Sam. That's called suicide.' 'You seen the tape?' Her eyes fix on the bottle and I draw it away, watching how she watches it. 'What tape?' 'The security tape. I haven't seen it either, but I was told all about it. Those policemen never figured out who else was up there, but she wasn't alone.' Same runs her tongue over her cracked lips. 'Sia didn't jump. She was pushed." This explains how Wick also lost her mom just like Alex did. Wick's mom died and she also wanted to know what happened to her mom.
Other than similarities these two characters had differences as well from each other. They both wanted to find out what happened to their mothers but in different ways. Wick found out what happened to her mother by hacking and investigating. She watched interviews of her mom and found out truths about her mom she never knew. Alex however found out what hapoened to her mom by actually going to Colorado where her mom was heading. She wanted closure and to let go of the past. So those were some similarities and differences between these two books.

Bitter End Prediction

After reading part of this book I can make a prediction that Cold might not be the right person for Alex. Everyone tells Alex that Cole is no good and she should probably keep a distance from him. In the book Bitter End by Jennifer Brown it states, "It's not funny, Cole,' I snapped. He laughed harder. 'God, Alex. Don't be whiny," he said, jostling me with his knee. Then he clucked his tongue disgustedly. 'Would it have been funny if it was Zack pushing you?' I pulled up onto my elbows and wiped my eyes. 'No,' I fumed, looking up at him angrily. 'I was yelling at you. Why didn't you stop?' I held myself from asking the next question: Were you trying to get me hurt?" This explains how Coles jealously against Zack makes his so dumb things and make Alex mad. While at the park Cole almost got Alex hurt and she wasn't sure if it was on purpose or not. This is one sign for Alex that Cole is bad news and she should listen to her friends who she ditches every time for Cole.
Cole has a side of him Alex doesn't really see and she doesn't know it. Alex thinks of Cole as the sweetest and most gently guy ever. Her friends however have seen the true side of him and are worried about Alex. In the book it states, "I held them up and shook them a little. 'Your Colorado stuff,' I said in a singsongy voice. 'Yeah, great,' Cole said, his voice so chilly it was like nothing I'd ever heard come out of him before. 'Look at that. The stuff I asked for weeks ago. Real nice of you to get right on it, Bethany." He rolled down his window, grabbed the papers out of my hand, and flung them out onto the road.' I gasped. I turned and looked out the back window. The papers had scattered and we're drifting into the weeds on the side of the road." This explains how's Alex's best friend Bethany took the time to get Colorado papers for Cole to go to Colorado with them. Cole however responded in a very negative way and threw out all the hard work Bethany did. Alex was shocked to see Cole act in such a cruel way. So this piece of evidence shows that maybe Cole might not be who Alex thought he was.

Bitter End Type of Conflict

The type of conflict I think I have for my book Bitter End is man vs. man. I think this because in the book the main character Alex meets a new guy she really likes named Cole. Alex's best friend Zack however gets really jealous. So in the story Zack and Cole have their own conflict. In the book Bitter End by Jennifer Brown it states, "I clenched my jaw and glared at Zack. He was acting like a jerk. But he didn't see me. His eyes were locked with Cole's, and the air in the room suddenly turned very uncomfortable. It was weird, really. Zack definitely had his opinions about people, but he was the kind of guy who almost always liked everyone. I could tell he definitely didn't like Cole, and I wondered what had gone on between them in gym class." This explains how Zack and Cole already don't like each other as soon as they met. This is already a conflict starter in the book. Alex has to deal with picking to hang out with Cole the guy she likes or her best friend Zack. Zack and Cole already show how they don't like each other and Alex wonders why. This is why I think that this book might he man vs. man.
